Grove Cranes Supplies Germany’s Schuch Heavylift With 8 New All-Terrain Cranes
German crane rental firm Schuch Heavylift has added eight Grove all-terrain cranes to its fleet in the past year, including a special custom model with a detachable boom. Manitowoc’s specialist consulting division, Lift Solutions, developed the bespoke GMK6450-1 as a 450-tonne (496-U.S.-ton) version of Grove’s GMK6400-1. Schuch Heavylift also acquired two 60-t (65-U.S.-t) GMK3060L-1 cranes, a 150-t (175-U.S.-t) GMK5150XL, and four 250-t (300-U.S.-t) GMK5250XL-1 cranes from dealer KranAgentur Werner.
The Custom Grove GMK6450-1
The one-of-a-kind GMK6450-1 has the same, six-axle design as Grove’s existing GMK6400-1 but with stronger load charts and other updates. It has a five-section, 60-metre (197-foot) Megaform main boom. When outfitted with an optional 25- to 79-m (82- to 259-ft) luffing jib, the crane can reach a 136-m (446-ft) maximum tip height. Schuch Heavylift opted to buy the crane’s available luffing and fixed jibs, as well as the MegaWingLift attachment option, which increases lift capacity at steeper boom angles.
Schuch Heavylift’s GMK6450-1 is unusual in that its boom may be detached for transport, which allows the unique crane to drive on motorways with a load of less than 10 t (11 U.S. t) per axle. Grove added a second suspension circuit to the carrier’s MegaDrive system in order to support the resulting variety in axle loads.
The Grove GMK3060L-1
The three-axle Grove GMK3060L-1 has an operating weight of 36,000 kilograms (79,370 pounds) and a lift capacity of 60 t (65 U.S. t). The compact crane has a tailswing of just 3.52 m (11.5 ft) and a width of only 2.55 m (8.37 ft) for transport.
A swingaway jib and extensions can be added to the GMK3060L-1’s seven-section Megaform main boom to attain a maximum tip height of 65 m (213 ft). The boom can telescope with Grove’s Twin-Lock pinning system from 9.55- to 48-m (31.3- to 157-ft) lengths.
The Grove GMK5150XL
The 150-t Grove GMK5150XL in Schuch Heavylift’s recent fleet upgrade delivers impressive load charts and economical taxi crane configurations. The five-axle crane has a 60,000-kg (132,280-lb) gross vehicle weight rating and a single Mercedes-Benz engine.
At 68.7 m (225 ft), the GMK5150XL’s seven-section main boom has a longer maximum length than many larger cranes can offer. It provides up to 99 m (325 ft) of hook height with optional extensions and a jib. The crane’s MAXbase option allows for asymmetric outrigger extension with automatic load chart adjustment.
The Grove GMK5250XL-1
Grove says that the 78.5-m (257.5-ft) boom of the GMK5250XL-1 is the longest to be found on any five-axle crane. A 109-m (358-ft) maximum hook height and a 250-t (300-U.S. t) load capacity make the 60,000-kg crane remarkably useful on any applicable jobsite.
Grove offers an optional VIAB turbo retarder clutch for the GMK5250XL-1, which provides virtually wear-free control and braking. The single-engine carrier rides on a Megatrak independent suspension. The MAXbase outrigger system is an option for maximum lifting performance in cramped or irregularly shaped work areas.
