Blazej & Roman Aims Higher With New Liebherr LTM 1650-8.1
Polish crane company Błażej & Roman Usługi Dźwigiem Sp.J. works primarily in residential and industrial construction and has in recent years increasingly focused on the assembly of prefabricated elements in the wind power sector throughout Poland. The family-owned company based in Komorniki recently expanded its fleet with a new Liebherr LTM 1650-8.1, which is now its largest crane. The long-time Liebherr customer chose the crane for its power and versatility. The 8-axle crane is already Błażej & Roman's flagship crane and will primarily be used in wind power projects.
"We considered several criteria, such as size, price, and efficiency, when making our purchase decision,” says Błażej Kasperski, co-owner of Błażej & Roman. “Although the LTM 1650-8.1 is a relatively new model in Liebherr's product range, it has already received a lot of good reviews and is the most sophisticated crane type in its class. A crane with this kind of lifting capacity will allow us to reach an even larger customer base and realise projects that we could only dream of before."
About The LTM 1650-8.1
The versatile 8-axle crane has a lifting capacity of 700 tonnes (770 U.S. tons) and two telescopic boom lengths, 54 or 80 metres (177 or 262 feet). Through an easy-to-use interchangeable system, operators can attach the 80-m boom for long-reach applications or use the 54-m boom when the extra length isn’t necessary to reduce transport costs and setup times. The LTM 1650-8.1 is equipped with VarioBallast, which increases operational flexibility by allowing the crane’s ballast radius to be infinitely varied between 6.3 and 8.4 m (20 and 27 ft). It is especially effective when paired with the VarioBase variable support base.
"In the 8-axle crane class, the LTM 1650-8.1 stands out thanks to some special innovations,” says Roman Kmiecik, also co-owner of Błażej & Roman. “Considering the increasingly common problems caused by a lack of space on construction sites, the VarioBallast is invaluable."
Planning For A Growing Sector
Błażej & Roman chose the 54-m boom with a 91-m (298-ft) luffing jib. This configuration gives the LTM 1650-8.1 a maximum lifting height of 148 m (485 ft). The crane will be used primarily for pre-installation work on new wind turbines and to perform maintenance on turbines currently in operation. "In Poland, wind energy has great potential. Due to the global geopolitical situation, the use of wind energy is likely to increase steadily, which will lead to rising demand for a mobile crane of this type," Kasperski says.
