SAE Italia Expands Crane Fleet With Acquisition Of 6-Axle Grove GMK6450-1
Italian lifting company SAE Italia, part of SAE Europe, really likes its Grove cranes. The Piacenza-based company, which offers lifting services and crane rentals (with or without operators), recently expanded its Grove fleet to 14 cranes with the addition of the GMK6450-1 all-terrain crane. The GMK6450-1 has the same design as the Grove GMK6400-1, but with a greater maximum capacity of 450 tonnes. The crane was custom-developed for SAE by Manitowoc Lift Solutions. The GMK6450-1 has worked virtually nonstop since its arrival last October.
“We received many bookings for the new crane as soon as customers heard about it,” says General Manager Michele Albamonte. “It has been working on a variety of demanding tasks.
Work completed by the GMK6450-1 includes maintenance tasks at energy provider A2A’s thermoelectric plant, a month-long maintenance gig at a refinery in Sicily, and installation of a roof for a school in Bologna.
About The GMK6450-1
The all-terrain crane based on the design of the Grove GMK6400-1 has a five-section, 60-metre (197-foot) Megaform main boom with a 136-m (446-ft) tip height when working with the optional 25-to 79-m (82- to 259-ft) luffing jib. The GMK6450-1 also has the self-rigging MegaWingLift attachment to enhance capacity and MAXbase for variable outrigger positioning. The all-terrain crane’s hydraulic system has faster flow for quicker operating speeds and smooth movement. It has a 20-degree tiltable superstructure cab and is equipped with an Eco Mode and Manitowoc’s Crane Control System.
“Our customer portfolio runs to over 600 companies, and whenever, and wherever, we have been called into action, whether it’s Hamburg, Budapest or throughout Italy, we have always been completely satisfied with our Grove cranes’ performance and versatility—not to mention the aftersales assistance Manitowoc has offered us over the years,” says Albamonte. “Throughout our long-standing relationship, we must have purchased the whole range of Grove all-terrain and rough-terrain cranes—but our GMK6450-1, with its incredible reach and capacity, not to mention exceptional ease of use, is the highlight of them all.”
