Liebherr Pushes Rough-Terrain Crane Reach & Capacity Envelopes With New LRT 1130-2.1
In mid-March, Liebherr highlighted a new rough-terrain crane with the longest boom and highest lift capacity in the two-axle market segment. The company showed off the new LRT 1130-2.1 at the ConExpo-Con/Agg trade show in Las Vegas, Nevada, in the U.S.
The new rough-terrain model has a 130-tonne (140-U.S.-ton) load capacity and a 60-metre (197-foot) telescopic boom. It is also sized for economical transport via low-loader trailer.
Boom Options
The LRT 1130-2.1 has a six-section boom that uses Liebherr’s Telematik high-speed telescopic system to extend and bolt fully automatically. The crane can attain a maximum hoist height of 85 m (279 ft) and a maximum radius of 66 m (217 ft) with assistance from a lattice extension and a single- or double-folding jib. Either jib can hydraulically tilt from 0 to 40 degrees, or be mounted at 0, 20, or 40 degrees. The folding jib is located on the right side of the boom, while the left side allows an assembly jib to be attached. An available rooster sheave is side-folding and may be operated in a two-line configuration.
Low-Loader-Transportable
The new LRT 1130-2.1 is 3.4 m (11.2 ft) wide, 3.85 m (12.6 ft) in height, and 9.4 (30.7 ft) in length. For transport, the machine can be reduced to 44,800 kilograms (98,750 pounds), or 48,000 kg (106,000 lbs) with its folding jib and hook block included.
The crane’s 20,000 kg (44,100 lbs) of counterweight and additional equipment can be hauled without a permit by standard means. Ballasting rams can help the three counterweight slabs attach to the crane’s slewing platform during self-assembly.
Safety Foremost
Liebherr engineered the LRT 1130-2.1 for safe crane operation. It complies with global safety standards including European, U.S., and Australian regulations. The crane monitors the positions and status of its outriggers, ballast, double-folding jib option, and jib angle for safety purposes, and is equipped with measures to prevent the disabling of these systems.
With Liebherr’s VarioBase as a standard feature, the LRT 1130-2.1 can extend its outriggers independently to any length. VarioBase works in conjunction with the crane’s LICCON controller’s load moment limiter to keep the machine’s lifting activity within safe parameters.
Like other Liebherr LRT models, the LRT 1130-2.1 has a wide, tilting crane cab designed for easy operation of the machine. The cabin has an electronically extending platform for safe access.
Working In The Rough
The LRT 1130-2.1 is designed for off-road, rough-terrain performance. It’s powered by a 252-horsepower (188-kW), six-cylinder Cummins engine with 1,186 newton-metres (875 pounds-foot) of torque and unrestricted compatibility with hydrogenated vegetable oil (HVO) fuel. A Dana six-speed powershift transmission puts the power to the ground.
The crane can travel at up to 20 km/h (12 mph). It is a 4 x 4 x 4 model with all-wheel and crab steering modes available.
