Liebherr LTR 1060 Does The Heavy Lifting For Eineder Solar Farm Installations

Autodienst Eineder GmbH of Ingolstadt, Bavaria, has been using a Liebherr LTR 1060 telescopic crawler crane since October to perform a myriad of tasks on solar farm work sites. The German company says that the off-road capability of the 60-tonne crane combined with its manoeuvrability and ability to move with a full load on the hook have made it the ideal choice for the installation of heavy solar transformer stations.

“Its pick-and-carry mode is particularly good as it enables us to carry transformer stations weighing up to 20 tonnes straight from the transport vehicle to the installation site,” says Eineder Managing Director Peter Eineder.

The telescopic crawler crane has a maximum load capacity of 60 tonnes (66 U.S. tons) and a 40-metre (131-foot) telescopic boom. The LTR 1060 has a maximum hoist height of 55 m (180 ft) and a maximum radius of 50 m (164 ft). The crane’s 4.8-m (15.7-ft)-wide track is right at home on difficult terrain and can retract to a mere 3 m (10 ft) to work in space-constrained sites and for transport. When hauling the crane between jobsites, its 3.15-m (10.3-ft) transport height allows for the use of standard low loader semitrailers.

The LTR 1060 weighs 62.6 t (69 U.S. t) including the turntable and central ballast, resulting in transport axle loads of less than 12 t (13.2 U.S. t) if a three-axle tractor unit and a five-axle low loader are used. Transport weight can be lowered to a net weight of the 27.5 t (30.3 U.S. t) if the ballast is removed to create axle loads of less than 10 t (11 U.S. t) using a three-axle tractor and a four-axle low loader. Upon arrival at the site, the crane can assemble the central ballast and the slewing platform ballast without the need for an auxiliary crane.

“The LTR 1060 is a fantastic crane,” adds Eineder. “Even as a 40-tonner without ballast, it is perfect for many jobs, including installing small transformer cabinets.”
