Sin Heng Heavy Machinery Upgrades From Grove GMK4100L To GMK4100L-2 All-Terrain Crane

Crane hire firm Sin Heng Heavy Machinery of Singapore has been investing in Grove cranes for its fleet since 2007. Many of its Grove cranes are all-terrain models, and the original Grove GMK4100L has been one of most productive machines in the fleet. The company recently took delivery of a new Grove GMK4100L-2, which provides a number of key upgrades over its predecessor.

“We had good experiences with our GMK4100L, so the improved load charts of the GMK4100L-2 made it the obvious choice for expanding our fleet,” says Sin Heng Operations Director C.S. Tan. “We often work on jobsites where there are space constraints, so its small footprint speeds up access and setup in what could otherwise be very tricky conditions. And with its main boom giving a reach of 60 metres, that’s an added advantage when we’re supporting the construction of tall buildings.”

The GMK4100L-2

The four-axle GMK4100L-2 has a 100-tonne (110-U.S.-ton) load capacity. In taxi configuration it can handle 6.8 t (7.5 U.S. t) of counterweight within 12 t (13.2 U.S. t) per axle. Grove says the remaining 26 t (28.7 U.S. t) counterweight can be transported on a single standard semitrailer. The 60-m (197-foot) main boom is a seven-section Grove Megaform boom with lift height starting at just 11.3 m (37 ft). Operators can modify the GMK4100L-2’s lift height with an optional 8-m (26.2-ft) extension or a 9.7-m (31.8-ft) or 16-m (52.5-ft) swingaway jib.

Second-Gen Upgrades

The GMK4100L-2’s new carrier cab offers increased interior space without increasing its compact exterior dimensions. The central console no longer divides the cab, allowing operators to easily move from one side to the other, and the Crane Control System (CCS) can be reached comfortably from a seated position. The CCS display allows users to access frequently used settings and drive modes and has the same layout and navigation as other GMK models to allow operators to easily switch from one Grove all-terrain crane to another. The GMK4100L-2 is also more fuel-efficient when using the Eco mode available on the 429-horsepower (320-kilowatt) Mercedes-Benz OM470LA engine.
