Crane and heavy transport company Herkules S.A. of Warsaw recently took delivery of a new Liebherr LG 1750 lattice boom mobile unit, mainly for wind turbine work. The eight-axle crane has a 750-tonne (850-U.S. ton) lifting capacity and a main boom up to 168 metres (551 feet) in length. Operators can drive the LG 1750 to a jobsite at speeds up to 80 km/h (50 mph) and then apply the strength and versatility of a strong lattice boom to the task.

"Our confidence in Liebherr products, their high availability, and reliable service led us to choose a Liebherr crane," says Pawel Maciejak, director of Herkules’ Crawler Cranes and Wind Energy Division. "The high mobility and carrying capacity were decisive factors for the purchase of the new LG 1750.”

    Liebherr’s LG 1750

Liebherr builds the LG 1750 with a 16 x 8 x 16 wheeled chassis and the slewing platform and boom system of its LR 1750 crawler model. The unusual combination provides taxi crane travel, fast setup, and powerful lift capabilities. The LG 1750 can reach a hook height of up to of 193 m (633 ft) and a radius of up to 136 m (446 ft).

Liebherr offers a large selection of wind power boom systems for the LG 1750 crane, including its SX system for wind turbines of up to 170 m (558 ft) in hub height. (Photo courtesy of Liebherr.)

Liebherr offers a large selection of wind power boom systems for the self-levelling LG 1750. Its SX system can erect the latest generation of wind turbines with hub heights of up to 170 m (558 ft). In addition, Liebherr says, the LG 1750 shows aptitude for industrial construction and infrastructure tasks.

The crane uses two eight-cylinder diesel engines, both of them manufactured by Liebherr. The machine’s drive engine is a 686-horsepower (505-kilowatt) unit, while the crane engine produces 618 HP (455 kW) of power. The LG 1750 boasts a transport weight of less than 45 t (99,200 lbs) and a transport width of just 3.5 m (11.5 ft).
