Manitowoc Opens 2nd Production Line Of Popular 6- & 8-Tonne Potain MCT 135 Topless Cranes In India
Crane manufacturer Manitowoc says that its Potain MCT 135 topless tower crane has become commercially successful enough in emerging markets to merit a second production line. The crane, which comes in two versions with 6- and 8-tonne (6.6- and 8.8-U.S.-ton) maximum lift capacities, is now being produced in Pune, India, as well as in Zhangjiagang, China.
“Customers are impressed with the performance of the crane, especially its lifting capability across the load curve,” says Manitowoc Cranes India Managing Director Prashant Suryawanshi. “It also delivers speed, flexibility, and can be sited on even the most compact projects. With two models available, customers can select the one that is right for their needs.”
Easy Assembly
Manitowoc notes that demand for smaller topless cranes is increasing; the manufacturer expects the locally produced MCT 135 to sell well in and around the Indian market. The Pune factory also produces the Potain MCT 85, a smaller model.
The MCT 135 will supersede the Potain MCT 125 saddle jib tower crane, which Manitowoc plans to phase out gradually. The manufacturer says the newer crane is stronger and easier to transport and set up on-site.
The MCT 135’s full top section can be shipped in five containers. The crane can be put together in as little as a day and a half, thanks to time-saving features such as pinned joints between its 1.6-metre (5.2-foot) L46 mast sections. It has two counter-jib arrangements to accommodate limited work spaces.
The Potain MCT 135
The seven jib sections of the MCT 135 can be configured for a radius of 30 to 60 m (98.4 to 197 ft). Both the H6 and H8 can hoist up to 1.5 t (1.65 U.S. t) at the tip of their full 60-m jib. The two cranes can lift their 6- and 8-t maximum loads out to 19.3 m (63 ft) and 15.3 m (50.2 ft), respectively, with a full-length jib.
The MCT 135 H6 and H8 both have a maximum height under hook of 48.8 m (160 ft). The H8 can lift a 1-t (1.1-U.S.-t) load at up to 98 metres (322 feet) per minute, and the H6 can hoist 0.75 t (0.83 U.S. t) at up to 102 m (335 ft) per minute. They can also lower loads up to 25% faster than they can raise them, thanks to a continuously variable speed control.
Manitowoc offers two trolley options and two slewing mechanisms for the Potain MCT 135. The crane uses precise frequency-controlled mechanisms for accurate slow or fast movements. The H6 edition has a 400-m (1,312-ft) rope capacity, and the H8 can carry up to 375 m (1,230 ft) of rope.
