Liebherr LTM 1070-4.2 & LTM 1150-5.3 All-Terrain Cranes Become The Latest Models For Hire At Germany’s Gräber Group
The Gräber Group of southern Germany added a couple of all-terrain cranes to its all-Liebherr fleet in early May. The crane, forklift, and work platform rental firm took delivery of a 70-tonne (80-U.S.-ton) LTM 1070-4.2 model and a 150-t (170-U.S.-t) Liebherr LTM 1150-5.3. Gräber has used Liebherr products exclusively since it began to rent out mobile cranes in 2013.
“This year we have already taken delivery of three new Liebherr cranes and we have placed orders for two more,” says Gräber Finance Director and Board of Directors member Thomas Gebhardt. The company plans to receive a Liebherr MK 140 mobile construction crane this summer and an LTM 1090-4.2 all-terrain model in autumn. “Liebherr’s crane technology is innovative and the support the company provides after the crane purchase is outstanding.”
The Liebherr LTM 1070-4.2
Liebherr’s four-axle LTM 1070-4.2 has a maximum hoist height of 65 metres (215 feet) with a folding jib and a maximum radius of 48 m (155 ft). Its Telematik boom uses a single-cylinder telescoping system to extend to its full 50-m (164-ft) length.
“We bought the LTM 1070-4.2 at the request of our dispatcher because we did not have a taxi crane which could drive on public roads carrying ballast,” says company owner Alexander Gräber. The LTM 1070-4.2 can carry up to 10.7 t (11.8 U.S. t) of ballast while keeping its weight under an axle load of 12 t (13.2 U.S. t), and is therefore legal to drive on main roads. With additional transport, the crane can reach its maximum ballast load of 14.5 t (16 U.S. t).
The LTM 1070-4.2 gets its power from a 449-horsepower (330-kilowatt), six-cylinder Liebherr engine. The crane has a maximum travel speed of 85 km/h (53 mph). Its speed-dependent rear-axle steering gives the mobile crane manoeuvrability on the jobsite, where its optional VarioBase variable outrigger extension system allows it to make the most of confined, irregular spaces.
The Liebherr LTM 1150-5.3
Liebherr’s LTM 1150-5.3 has a 66-m (217-ft) telescopic boom, very long for its class. With a lattice jib, the crane can reach a maximum lift height of 92 m (302 ft). A detachable boom is available as an option.
Like the LTM 1070-4.2 above, the five-axle LTM 1150-5.3 can act as a taxi crane with enough counterweight to perform most jobs. It can carry 9 t (9.9 U.S. t) of ballast within a per-axle load of 12 t.
“We will mainly use the 150-tonne crane for assembling prefabricated concrete components,” says Gräber Authorised Signatory Jörg Rössler. “It delivers the performance for this job and we audited with a second hoist gear. That enables us to turn the components into the correct position with ease during the assembly process.”
The LTM 1150-5.3 also uses a single engine, in this case a 544-HP (400-kW) Liebherr six-cylinder. The manufacturer says that the weight saved by omitting a superstructure motor allows the crane’s boom to be longer and higher in capacity. The LTM 1150-5.3 has a maximum radius of 72 m (236 ft).
