7 Potain MDT 219 J10 Tower Cranes Help Build Smart City In Northern Italy
Potain cranes have been hard at work in the northern Italian city of Bergamo, constructing the Chorus Life smart city project. Chorus Life, planned by real estate company Costim, will transform a 150,000-square-metre brownfield site into a smart city with a 6,500-seat arena, a 1,000-vehicle car park, a spa with a medical centre, a sky jogging track, a 110-room hotel, and residential space with 74 flats.
Potain dealer Techind deployed seven Potain MDT 219 J10 top-slewing tower cranes along with two Potain self-erecting tower cranes, an HD 40A and an Igo 50, to the jobsite to work on the project. Chorus Life’s contractor Percassi wanted a crane that could be set up in multiple configurations for maximum efficiency by easing operator use, maintenance, and parts and settled on the MDT 219 J10. Approximately 400 tonnes of iron will be moved on the site each week along with other materials.
About the MDT 219 J10
In its basic configuration, the Potain MDT 219 J10 has a 65-metre (213-foot) jib with a maximum capacity of 10 tonnes (11 U.S. tons) at 17 m (56 ft) and 1.9 t (2.1 U.S. t) at the tip. For the Chorus Life project, they were fitted with a 37-kilowatt (50-horsepower) 50LVF25 GH Optima lifting hoist and RVF 162 Optima Plus slewing mechanism. The MDT 219 J10s on this project have Ultra View cabs and are set in different configurations with different heights, jib lengths, and capacities throughout the Chorus Life grounds. Each crane is equipped with the latest generation Crane Control System (CCS) with a full graphic display, ergonomic controls, and a jog dial for navigation and data input. They also have Top Tracing III, an anti-collision system that monitors up to 16 cranes. The CraneSTAR Diag remote diagnostics tool allows technicians to connect to the crane’s control screen remotely to troubleshoot problems, saving time and money on repairs.
Other Cranes In Use
The HD 40A is 23 m (75.5 ft) high and has a 35-m (115-ft) jib. The Igo 50 is 23.2 m (76 ft) high, has a 40-m (131-ft) jib, and is the largest model in the Igo range of self-erecting tower cranes. It has a 4.5- by 4.5-m (15- by 15-ft) footprint and a small rear slewing radius, ideal for confined areas. The Igo 50 is equipped with a 480-volt three-phase power hookup and has an optional fixed-height cab, access ladder, and a wireless remote control.
