Grove Supplies Compact GMK3060L-1 & Powerful GMK5150L-1 All Terrain Cranes To Groupe Cayon In France
Transport specialist Groupe Cayon of Chalon-sur-Saône, France, acquired three new 60-tonne (65-U.S. ton)-capacity Grove GMK3060L-1 all-terrain cranes last year, along with a 150-t (175-U.S. t) Grove GMK5150L-1 taxi model last month with which to erect tower cranes. All four of the new cranes will see use in and around Lyon, France, near Grove’s European parts depot.

The Grove GMK3060L-1
“The compact size, long boom, and strong load charts on the GMK3060L-1 are perfect for our fleet and will help us improve our productivity,” says Groupe Cayon Director Julien Cayon.
“Grove has a good reputation in terms of compactness and carrier design, and the new GMK3060L-1 cranes are easier and more comfortable to use than ever before,” says Jean-Paul. “Everything has been improved.”
“When choosing a new model for our fleet, it was also important to select a mobile crane that complies with road regulations and travels well between jobsites,” Julien says. “We were very impressed by the new carrier cab design on the GMK3060L-1, which will make travel more comfortable for the operators.”
The three-axle Grove GMK3060L-1 can drive as a taxi crane with up to 7.5 t (8.3 U.S. t) of counterweight within a limit of 12 t (13.2 U.S. t) per axle or 13.5 t (14.9 U.S. t) of ballast within 16.5 t (18.2 U.S. t) per axle. The compact crane has an overall length of just 11.29 m (37 ft), a height of 3.8 m (12.5 ft), a width of 2.55 m (8.37 ft), and a tail swing of 3.52 m (11.55 ft).
The GMK3060L-1’s seven-section, 9.55- to 48-m (31.3- to 157-ft)-long Megaform main boom uses the Twin-Lock pinning system. The crane can reach a maximum tip height of 65 m (213 ft) with a swingaway jib and extensions. Its load charts begin at a 0-degree boom angle, so the GMK3060L-1 can actually be operated indoors. Its superstructure cab features a 20-degree tilt capability and Manitowoc’s Crane Control System (CCS).
The Grove GMK3060L-1 has an operating weight of 36,000 kilograms (79,370 pounds); a 341-horsepower (251-kilowatt), Euromot 5/Tier 4 Final Cummins QSL9 engine; and a ZF Traxon 12 automatic transmission. Its compact, 8.67-m (28.4-ft)-long carrier is available in either a 6x4x6 or 6x6x6 configuration.
The Grove GMK5150L-1
The five-axle Grove GMK5150L has a gross vehicle weight of 60,000 kg (132,280 lbs) and a single 523-horsepower (385-kilowatt), six-cylinder, Euromot 5/Tier 4 Final Mercedes-Benz turbo-diesel engine. The user can operate the crane using CCS in the spacious new Grove carrier cab.
The GMK5150L’s six-section Megaform boom with the Twin-Lock pinning system can extend from 12.8 to 60 m (42 to 197 ft). The crane is able to lift 11.8 t (13 U.S. t) on its main boom. With boom and jib extensions and inserts, the crane can attain a maximum tip height of 97 m (318 ft).
“The new Grove GMK5150L-1 is perfect for erecting tower cranes and will help us to expand our business in this respect,” Julien says.
The taxi crane can be equipped with 10.2 t (11.2 U.S. t) of counterweight within 12-t-per-axle or 30.9 t (34.1 U.S. t) within 16.5-t-per-axle configurations. Its steer-by-wire system, all-wheel steering, and Megatrak independent suspension make it easy to move the crane into position on the worksite.
