Italian Transport & Crane Hire Firm Adds New Liebherr MK 88-4.1 For Mobile Construction

A brand-new Liebherr MK 88-4.1 mobile construction crane is joining F.lli Zanoletti S.p.A.’s fleet to enhance its precision and manoeuvrability on space-constrained jobsites. The Italian company has been using Liebherr cranes for more than 40 years, and the current fleet also includes five Liebherr LTM mobile cranes.

Zanoletti crane operators Simone Bonfanti and Tomaso Ferazzini say they are looking forward to using the MK 88-4.1: “Our first impressions of the MK 88-4.1 are extremely positive. The crane’s different steering set-ups make it easy to handle out on the road and on tight construction sites. Precise operation also means it’s fast and efficient on site.”

Intelligent Design

The MK 88-4.1 can be operated using on-site electricity or a diesel generator to reduce noise and jobsite emissions, making it an ideal option for construction in urban settings. The four-axle crane also features Liebherr’s Litronic intelligent assistance systems to help operators work safely on challenging jobsites. Feature highlights include a fine positioning mode (where the load can be lowered at micro-speed without hoist gear brake engaging), wind force movement control and oscillation-damping capabilities, and an operating-range limiting system.

Liebherr’s MK 88-4.1

The Liebherr MK 88-4.1 is a four-axle crane with an 8x6x8 drive wheel configuration. With a 48-tonne (53-U.S.-ton) operating weight and the option for all-electric operation, the machine is often called upon for jobs in dense urban areas, as well as for taxi crane applications. The crane’s 440-horsepower (330-kilowatt), six-cylinder Liebherr diesel engine can propel it at up to 80 km/h (50 mph).

The crane has a maximum lifting capacity of 8,000 kilograms (17,636 pounds) and a radius of up to 45 metres (147 feet). At its full radius, the MK 88-4.1 can lift up to 2,200 kg (4,850 lbs). The MK 88-4.1 has a maximum hook height of 30.2 m (99 ft) or up to 59.1 m (194 ft) with its jib in a luffed position. The jib can be positioned at 15, 30, and 45 degrees.
