Potain Tower Cranes Building An IKEA Store & Mixed-Use Complex In Nice, France
Da Mota Construction has leased six Potain tower cranes to help it construct a new IKEA store complex in Nice, France. Rental company Riviera Montage supplied the contractor with three Potain MDT 219 J10s, one MDT 269 J12, and two MDT 319 cranes. The cranes’ suitability for urban construction (especially the MDT 219, according to Potain) was key to their selection, as were their reliability, ease of assembly, and operational efficiency.
Reliable Cranes
The new IKEA will reside in part of the 54,275-square-metre (584,211-square-foot) mixed-used complex in Nice’s Saint-Isidore eco-district. The furniture store will dominate the site with a 32,304-sq m (347,717-sq ft) footprint. The complex will also include 16,675 sq m (179,488 sq ft) of housing, comprising 289 units, as well as 3,403 sq m (36,630 sq ft) each of offices and retail space.
“Potain is a long-standing partner that offers modern, reliable, and easy-to-assemble cranes,” says Riviera Montage Manager Frédéric Vella. “The reputation of the cranes along with our technical expertise, customer proximity, and investments in new equipment have allowed us to win this project.”
The cranes were erected on the site between March and June of this year. They are expected to wrap up their work there between the first quarter and the end of July of 2022.
“Besides their reliability, the cranes include several features that will keep the project on schedule,” Vella says. “Most notably, Manitowoc’s Crane Control System (CCS) enables easy setup and calibration in record time from the cab. The ergonomic operation, which is the same across all three models, also increases efficiency.”
Potain MDT Tower Cranes
The Potain MDT 219 J10 top-slewing crane offers up to 10 tonnes (11 U.S. tons) of lift capacity and up to 65 metres (213.3 feet) of jib. The crane can lift a maximum of 1.9 t (2.1 U.S. t) at full radius. Its maximum height under hook is 70.4 m (231 ft). For onsite flexibility, the MDT 219 J10’s bases, mast, and climbing equipment are interchangeable with certain other top-slewing tower crane models. The crane’s optional Ultra View cab provides user comfort as well as enhanced visibility.
The 12-t (13.2-U.S.-t) MDT 269 J12 crane features Potain’s Cab-IN operator elevator, which ascends the inside of the mast and has access ladders running parallel to it. The crane is controlled by the user-friendly CCS, which is designed for flexibility and comfortable ergonomic control with a jog dial interface. The MDT 269 J12’s maximum height under hook is 74 m (242.8 ft) per base. It can lift up to 3.1 t (3.4 U.S. t) at the tip of its 65-m jib.
The 12-t (13.2-U.S.-t) Potain MDT 319 topless crane is designed for faster assembly, erection, transport, and maintenance. It can lift up to 3.2 t (3.5 U.S. t) at its full radius of 70 m (229.7 ft).
